What’s The Cure For Dandruff?
Posted on | July 7, 2010 | 178 Comments
If you suffer from dandruff, chances are you suffer from a lack of solutions to dandruff. The cure for dandruff isn’t defined clearly because it varies from person to person. A majority of people deal with it with simple over the counter dandruff shampoos, some with new age techniques and some with medicated techniques. What you need to figure out is which one works best for you, without spending a fortune testing every possible option out there.

First off, don’t feel alone when it comes to dandruff. Over 50 Million Americans alone suffer from dandruff symptoms. That means one in every five Americans deal with dandruff problems, a majority of whom are looking for the same answers you are.
Where to start
First you need to figure out if you have dandruff or something more severe like seborrheic dermatitis, which is a more advanced form of dandruff. Seborrheic Dermatitis symptoms differ from dandruff problems. Dandruff problems range from itching, flaking and drying of scalp. Dandruff occurs only on your scalp whereas seborrheic dermatitis can go past the scalp and affected areas range from eyebrows, eyelids, ears and nose. The flakes of someone who suffers from seborrheic dermatitis can be much larger opposed to those who suffer from dandruff. Deciding which type you have will certainly help you in your future purchases.
What causes dandruff
Simple and depressing answer, no one really knows. There has yet to be a defined answer from doctors as to what is the main cause for dandruff. One trigger that may be the main issue is Malassezia that causes flaking. It is believed that the residue left behind by Malassezia hurts and irritates the scalp. So this would mean that this Malassezia is the main reason for dandruff, right? Nope. There are plenty of cases where Malassezia is not present which has left doctors without a definitive answer for years.

Calm and control dandruff
Keeping hydrated is probably the easiest way to help dandruff. Keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day and you should see a difference. Don’t use hot water. Use lukewarm water to help cool and calm the scalp. You want to make sure your hair maintains the natural oils your body produces that will keep from drying your scalp.
Find out what works best and stick with it
Changing your methods and shampoos frequently can cause more irritation, so make sure that when you find a solution that you think is working to stick with it. Let time take its course and if the changes you want aren’t being made, then go ahead and look in a different direction.
